Community Learning  
 

The Community Learning Section forms part of the Community Learning and Environment Branch within the Division for Community Development and is tasked to promote, facilitate and assist the development and strengthening of community learning and development centres in Papua New Guinea and to help improve coordination of literacy provision in the country.

Major activities of the Community Learning Section are:

  • Establishing the district focal points that are the centerpiece of the Integrated Community Development Policy implementation and responsible for coordinating the support to village community learning and development centres
  • Developing and delivering leadership management training courses for Community Learning and Development Centre (CLDCs) coordinators in all four regions of PNG, as well as train the trainer courses for provincial community development advisers and officers
  • Acting as a focal point for informal learning, especially literacy improvement, with literacy providers and in developing provincial databases of literacy providers
  • Establishing an income generation product for CLDCs through leadership around a nationwide Personal Viability course funded through a Public Investment Program (PIP) program.

In the coming year, the Community Learning Section intends carrying out the train the trainer component to provinces on the CLDC Leadership and Management course, carrying out the New Guinea Islands CLDC Leadership and Management course, design and develop an improved coordination mechanism for the literacy training providers in the country and roll out the personal viability training program across the country.
