The Office of Censorship is responsible for classifying of films and publications and also oversees the prohibition of pornographic materials. This extends to ensuring adequate consumers advice that informs the public about the content of what they are about to see or read, and so includes classification symbols for television programs.
The Office of Censorship has six staff with two managers. A current project of the Office of Censorship is reviewing the current legislation, particularly in response to changes in technology and the wider media.
Key achievements of the Office since 2006 are:
Improvement of classification labels (Black & White color)
Computerised database for films & publication (from manual data cards)
The Office also intends carry out the following projects in the coming year:
Passage of the amendments to current Act by the National Parliament
An organisational restructure
A fully computerised classification system.
